Our Story

Where It All Began

In 1999, our investment manager (Elmien Wagenaar) completed her Honours degree in Applied Mathematics. Her thesis (Quantitative and Qualitative Measures in Fund Manager Selection) was awarded the prize for the best project in the Honours Category by the Operations Research Society of South Africa (ORSSA).

In 2000, she joined the Advisory Services Division of Sanlam Personal Portfolios (later Glacier), where she provided unit trust fund due diligence and asset allocation solutions to Independent Financial Advisers.

To build her practical knowledge of markets, she completed her Masters degree in 2001. Her thesis was titled: Asset allocation in the South African context.

She joined Citadel Asset Management in 2002 as an analyst and later became Head of Alternative Assets Research. The role entailed analysing and investing in hedge funds across the world and incorporating hedge funds in the total investment portfolio of clients. This engagement resulted in a 13 year track record of investing in hedge funds with an annualised return of 15.6% per annum.

She started THINK.CAPITAL in 2014 with the strong motivation of sharing her knowledge and experience of hedge funds with the aim to build investor trust in the usefulness of this alternative source of investment returns.

By designing innovative solutions targeted at addressing generally under-explored possibilities, THINK.CAPITAL redefines client needs and displaces established investment practices.

This philosophy resulted in the RCIS THINK Growth QI Hedge Fund, a specialist fund of hedge funds.

Our purpose is to

  • build investor trust and confidence in alternative sources of investment returns through prudent management of investments in hedge funds and
  • grow investor capital with skilled care.
